Dear Younger Leigh - It's unfortunate but it is true...


Dear Younger Leigh, 

I wish I was there to navigate politics and leadership with you. 
I truly wish I was there with you, to help you through the propaganda, gossip,  character assassination,  backstabbing, pain, heartache, plots and traps. 
I wish I was there to hold your hands and reassure you that it will only get worse. 
There is no better in politics or leadership. 
It's unfortunate, but it is the truth. 

They will target you, 
Plot against you,
Use you as a scapegoat,
Dig massive graves for you,
Isolate you,
Single you out,
Belittle you, 
Undermine you,
It's unfortunate, but it is the truth.

I wish I was there to hold your hands and direct your paths.
I truly wish I was there with you, to better prepare you for battle, war, arguments, attacks and attempts at silencing your voice.
I wish I was there to teach you how to be meticulous in battle and formidable in spirit.
Because, they will love you in the morning, like you by noon and hate you by evening.
It's unfortunate, but it is the truth.

They'll sell you dreams,
Promise you the stars and the moon,
Entice you with money,
Promise you influence and power,
Give you false hope and confidence, 
Promise you a waterproof campaign, 
They will run around with your name,
Claim you are this and that,
attempt to annihilate you completely, 
They will stop at nothing to get you in the mud,
It's unfortunate, but it is the truth.

Younger Leigh,  you will at some stage in your political and leadership role experience all the above.
In those times, be slow to react, slow to reply and slow to stoop to their level. 
Because, they will accuse you of thee most terrible things just to drown you and throw off your game. 
They will come for you through the one you are closest to the most.
They will try everything in their power to get you to dance to their tunes. And, if you don't, you are declared public enemy number one. 
You need to go through all that to understand what is meant by integrity and ethics. 
It's unfortunate, but it is the truth. 

Politics is HARD. 
Leadership is HARD.
Days will come when you feel alone.
Days will come when you feel tired. 
Days will come when you feel like giving up.
Days will come when you will cuss alone in your room.
Days will come when they will embarrass you in public.
Days will come when they will try to isolate you.
Days will come when you feel you can do better things.
Whatever it is you are going through, you better hold on because, your generation depends on it. 
It"s unfortunate, but is is the truth.

I wish I was there with you, to reassure you that there is nothing wrong with you.
I wish I was there with you, to tell you to just be.
Be loud. 
Be ambitious. 
Be brave. 
Be opinionated. 
Be woman. 
I wish I was there to tell you that patriarchy will always be there. 
Patriarchy would like to see you weak and down.
Patriarchy would like to see you out and lost.
Patriarchy will tell you to keep quiet, it will tell you to be less woman.
Patriarchy will make you believe that there is something wrong with you, because according to patriarchy, women means second class citizens. 
It's unfortunate, but it is the truth.


...Albeit, Giving up is NOT an option. 

One day, you will look back and understand the journey. You had to go through the fire to become a force. Remember, NOBODY is God. NOBODY has rights over you. For as long as oxygen is free and it is from God, breathe your way to the top. You will only intimidate the weak. 

I look forward to seeing you in the future.

My Advise, If you do not have thick skin, stay out of politics and leadership. It is a journey that can either leave you bitter or learned.
