Rise, Woman Rise!

Woman, Rise! Rise above the skies and beyond,  Just Rise!  Rise above the hill tops and beyond,  Be Risen!  Rise above the criticism, patriarchy and chauvinism.  Woman, Rise!  Rise above the trials and Tribulations!  Just Rise!  Rise and BE!  Be Loud,  Be Ambitious,  Be Opinionated,  Be Confident,  Be Anything you want to be.  Be anything you want to be.   Rise, woman Rise!  Rise above the skies and beyond.   As women, we have been told how to behave, when to behave, where to behave... We are told how to dress, what decent dressing is by people who know nothing about being a woman. Women are told where to speak, how to speak and when to speak. Who made men bosses over women? Patriarchy is normalized because many women are silent advocates. Society has normalized patriarchy and the church is its biggest sponsor. Rise, Woman Rise! is dedicated to every rebel, every non-conformist, every robust and radical...

Dear Younger Leigh - It's unfortunate but it is true...

Dear Younger Leigh,  I wish I was there to navigate politics and leadership with you.  I truly wish I was there with you, to help you through the propaganda, gossip,  character assassination,  backstabbing, pain, heartache, plots and traps.  I wish I was there to hold your hands and reassure you that it will only get worse.  There is no better in politics or leadership.  It's unfortunate, but it is the truth.  They will target you,  Plot against you, Use you as a scapegoat, Dig massive graves for you, Isolate you, Single you out, Belittle you,  Undermine you, It's unfortunate, but it is the truth. I wish I was there to hold your hands and direct your paths. I truly wish I was there with you, to better prepare you for battle, war, arguments, attacks and attempts at silencing your voice. I wish I was there to teach you how to be meticulous in battle and formidable in spirit. Because, they will love you in the morning, like you by noon and ...

The Pan-Afrikan and The Christian in ME...

The Pan-Afrikan and Christian in Me - The Abstract Disclaimer: The title is reserved for a future book of mine... and, my thoughts are all over the place - kinda my new normal. :) I am a staunch Pan-Afrikanist, an unapologetic black and a Christian. Now, for most, it's either they are Pan-Afrikanist or a Christian, hardly both. Lol.  I'm born and raised into the Evangelical Lutheran Church faith. I am baptized and confirmed into the above mentioned faith. But, along the way, with all my travels and various stays in different Afrikan countries, I got to experience the Islamic religion too. Albeit, God himself found me in March of 2006 in my room. I've had super personal and extraordinary encounters with God. I've experience the ministry of Angels on 1st April 2010, it's a date I will NEVER ever forget in my life. I've had dreams about Jesus Christ and I've also experienced the miraculous in July 2015. I'm a very specific and thorough p...

Dreams! Dreams! Dreams! :)

...Lately, I have been imagining myself in office as the Head of State of a nation and sometimes as the Head of the #AU. Interesting, I Know. Now, I'm fully aware the above may be considered as "dangerous" because, many Afrikan Heads of States don't take kind to such. I get it, but... A girl is allowed to dream mos, Akere! Well, thank God I come from a very democratic country. I must point out that my thoughts are slightly all over the place, do forgive me, but this is a topic I'm deeply passionate about. (I love politics, leadership and economics) I've always had this 'thing' of being the Head of State or Head of the #AU. also, I know being President isn't easy and whatnot but I think my generation and those coming after us will be the most overburdened leaders of our lifetimes. I believe we will be correcting the many wrongs of our current leaders. I believe there are many decisions being taken in isolation by a people that will not be there ...

I have changed... Indeed!

There was a time that I, Sarah-Leigh Elago better known as Madam Chair thought every battle was my own to fight. I would fight against injustice. Help fight battles that weren't mine to begin with, stand up for people that were voiceless until I learnt that the creature called human being is the worst creature that existed. Human beings will turn you into a witch if you don't know how to guard your heart with all diligence.  This creature is not loyal. This mammal if not careful can consume you and leave you bitter. This creature called human being taught me to harden my heart. It taught me to grow a pair and whilst I'm at it, thicken my skin like that of a crocodile and sharpen my brain capacity like that of an elephant. Now more then ever, I'm super emotionally and politically intelligent.  The human creature if not careful will devour you. Over 15 years experience in leadership and politics taught me to be meticulous in battle. I've learned to pick my ba...

Listen...

Listen,  We ALL have something in which we EXCELL. Right? That one thing ONLY YOU CAN DO...  Now, I picked up something VERY interesting at a particular meeting.  People actually STUDY each other. I noticed that sometimes, when people realise you are a danger to their game, they study you meticulously. They befriend you and become extremely close to you. In that closeness, they learn ALL your flaws, very soon, they start using it against you. See, when you become a threat, you are MARKED. That way, they aim straight at you.  Now, that you are marked, the aim is to get rid of you. What normally happens is that people become extremely strategic. They obviously cannot tell you straight up that YOU need go... So, their ONLY plan is to FRUSTRATE you. Its amazing what frustration can do to a person. Once frustration kicks in, NOTHING is working. Which will eventually lead to YOU quitting. The other key is turning people against you. That one is a bit cl...

Thomas Sankara — A daughter's tribute to her father!

Dearest Dada, I hope you are doing far better with the ancestors. Sometimes, I imagine you, having a serious roundtable discussion with Kwame Nkrumah, Patrice Lumumba, Frantz Fanon, Steve Biko, OR Tambo, Natanael Maxuilili, last but not least... the legendary Samora Machel. At age 33, you siezed power in 1983 with the goal of eliminating corruption and the dominance of the former French colonial power. Your foreign policies were centered on anti-colonialism, with your government eschewing all foreign aid, pushing for odious debt reduction, nationalizing all land and mineral wealth and averting the power and influence of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. Moreover, your COMMITMENT to women's rights led you to outlaw female genital mutilation, forced marriages and polygamy, while appointing women to higher governmantal positions and encouraging them to work outside their homes and MOST importantly, allowing young ladies to STAY in school even if pregnant.  ...

I Am Black, Mr. White Man...

I Am Black by: Sarah-Leigh Elago Some call me black,  Some call me nigger,  Some call me kaffer,  But, I Am PROUDLY BLACK.  I am NOT a mistake,  I am HUMAN,  I matter to ME,  Why does that bother you, Mr. white man?  Some call me a monkey,  Some call me an ape,  Some call me a piece of shit,  But, I Am UNAPOLOGETICALLY BLACK.  I am a MASTERPIECE,  I am perfectly imperfect,  I am a creature of substance,  Why can't you ACCEPT that, Mr. white man?  I am a creature of LIFE,  I am a person of CAPACITY,  I am a being of ABILITIES,  I AM BLACK!  NO! Mr. white man,  I will NOT apologize for being black,  Neither will I walk in shame,  I am PROUD, EXTREMELY PROUD of being Black!  Some call me doomed,  Some call me previously disadvantaged,  Some call me dark,  But, I AM ALIVE WITH THE COLOR BLACK.  I am TIRED of dying,...

Life and Death...

Life and Death by:  Sarah-Leigh Elago Just yesterday,   You were here with us,  We laughed and spoke to another,  And you said, I will call once I arrived safely. Never once, did we thought,   You will go away from us,  In such a horrific manner,  We cried out to God, why? You burned beyond recognition,   You, MY child, We thought to ourselves,  We didn't carry you for nine months,  Endured labour pains, ONLY for you to die like so. When the Dr's told us,   That we were pregnant with YOU,  We were so happy,  We felt so blessed. We watched you grow,   Watched you take your first steps,  Watched you talk, watched you dance,  Watched you smile, watched you laugh. We took so much pride in you, child!   We had so many plans for you,  You, OUR child, were the beauty of perfection,  We loved you so so much. We realise now, t...
